Chairperson

My first introduction to CASPr was at the request of the Society of the Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP) who asked that I would visit a new project in the North East Inner City in an effort to assist in their development in 1994.

I was immediately taken with this new initiative that offered training locally to inspire those who live locally to provide the services that they needed for themselves. The SVP continue their support for our project.  I joined the Board of CASPr in Dec 1995.

As a Primary School Teacher in the NEIC for 30 years I was aware of the positive impact such a project could have on children and families of all schools in the catchment area. In the intervening time there have been many who have accessed accredited qualifications from CASPr improving their employment prospects whilst becoming worthy examples to the children they looked after in the After-School Project.
I became more involved when it became apparent that we have a significant role in the ongoing care and education of the children who attend, offering lunch, homework support and club activities. A primary aim was to encourage the children’s voices, encourage their participation and help them to articulate their voice especially when they find it difficult.
Firmly embedded in the community since 1994 CASPr advocates for the rights of some our youngest citizens ensuring all who attend receive the best care, the most pertinent opportunities from a dedicated staff who quietly give much more than they’re paid for.
This is why I will continue to be proud member of CASPr’s Board.
I am a proud member of the Board since 1995, one of a committed team who help to keep an important Community Development Project relevant. We are inspired by a confident staff at the helm who are the neighbours when a friend is needed, a teacher when a trainer is needed, a listener always and an advocate for all who those children, staff and parents who are part of our service and for all the past children, staff and parents who continue to be important members of the CASPr family.

My involvement with CASPr began as a literacy tutor (on outreach from DALC) and literacy support tutor to childcare students. I have a lifelong interest in basic and adult education, and human development.

I believe CASPr’s links to local schools and other North-East Inner-City organisations is key to its success (and the CDETB, other statutory agencies). I am Delighted to see former students progress onto positions in CASPr. Currently I work both in adult community & further education, and as an art therapist with adults and young people, both in the public sector, and privately.
